Rally Exceeds $3,500; Local Businesses Chip In
Torrington High School’s Raiders Rally for Torrington is still over two weeks ago – but the momentum is building! The current total for charitable donations exceeds $2500.
The bi-annual event, which benefits the local chapters of Susan B. Anthony, FISH, and Friendly Hands Food Bank, got a huge push this weekend from three THS seniors, Aubrey Peterson Hague, Colleen Kilgore, and Erica Morrison. The girls collected monetary donations and canned food at the downtown Torrington Stop and Shop. Their efforts brought in over $250 – plus a cart full of non-perishable food items.
Students have been busy soliciting help from local businesses, many of whom have donated either gift cards for the event raffle or cash contributions. Some businesses and organizations have agreed to hold canned food drives at their offices to support the student’s efforts.
Some THS students will be setting up a table at “Saturday in the Park,” the event running on May 27th at Coe Park. The Arts and Culture Commission of Torrington is running the event, and have invited the Raiders Rally club to participate.
“It’s a real community effort,” says faculty advisor Erin Sullivan. “The students run this event to help their community – it’s wonderful for them to see the community responding to their efforts.”
